Hello all and welcome back. I'm your friendly host here in the world of MGF's where we'll be discussing stuff on the site, games, my first impressions of Tekken 5 and some light relief for Friday and the chance to win a Nintendo DS!!!
The site is being worked on around the clock behind the scenes by lots of furious little jawas. We don't allow them out at night or give them any water and hopefully we should be seeing the fruits of their labour soon. We've decided on a more free flowing format for the site and this should make things easier to read and help the site load up a bit quicker. As for the logo, well, I'm not one to break my promises, but it's coming. Not this week I'm afraid but soon so be afraid, be very afraid (er...I think I lost the plot there a bit...probably a lack of red meat in my diet).
If you have any red meat or want to enter our competition (see below) then mail me, my address is at the bottom of the page.
Gameswise we have been busy. There are plenty of hot titles coming your way in the next week. Funnily enough they are all film and TV related. We've got Predator
("There's something out there waiting for us, and it ain't no man"), The Mummy
(Rachel Weisz - wah wah wah!), The Day After Tomorrow
("I will come for you son, I will come for you!!"), Garfield in Dreamland
, and so far, my personal favourite, the Flintstones Bedrock Bowling (Yabba Dabba Doo!!). So there's a lot to get excited about.
Speaking of games, I had the chance to check out Tekken 5 yesterday on the PS2. Actually for those of you who are fans of the series you will remember that GON was in Tekken 3 but never made the cut after that. I think after his flame filled performance in 3 he was deemed too good and too powerful to be in Tag, 4 or 5 and so they decided to leave me him out. Either that or he should 'fire' his agent (boonnngggg!). Anyways, the game looks stunning and plays like a much much better version of Tekken 4. The juggles and characters are back in and there are plenty of new moves and combos. You can customise each character as well by earning cash in the game and buying other outfits and accessories such as glasses, headgear, waistgear and the like. This is pretty cool but the best thing in my opinion is that Tekken 1-3 is on the DVD as well!! How cool is that!! So in a way Gon kinda is in Tekken 5! I will let you all in on more as I spend time playing the game (and see if the Mishima cheapness is still there!) The game is not out in the UK just yet but you can order a Japanese version from Play Asia
. The menu and options are in English. Speech is in Japanese but with English subtitles. Anyone can figure it out.
I wanted to say how much fun our reviewers had playing Tenchu
last week. It's a great conversion of the console classic to mobile phones. Speaking of ninjas it's time for my weekly rant. There are many people who believe that the true art of ninjitsu was lost in the ancient mists of Japan and the almost supernatural feats will never be seen again. I disagree and want to point out to everyone that ninjas are alive and well and exist among us. For specific evidence of this you just have to check out any old person walking along a train platform in front of you. No matter how hard I try, I find it nigh on impossible to get around them!! They have eyes in the back of their head and manage to cut you off at every turn. How do they do that?? How do they saunter along and manage to take up the whole width of a platform designed to fit 4 people?? How do they manage to appear at will in crowds? I believe there are ninjitsu techniques of awareness, evasion and mind control at work. While we're on the subject of trains I have a new reason to get annoyed. Let me make myself a bit clearer. When you are running for the train and just make it on board MOVE OUT OF THE WAY so the people behind you can also make the jump. Don't just jump on and stop!! This means that everyone else around you won't get on. I swear, if this keeps up I'm going to start rugby tackling the culprits. At least I'll be on the train and have a seat on their battered bodies. That'll show em my ninjitsu.
Lastly onto that piece you were all waiting for. The good folks at FS Import
have supplied us with a brand new Nintendo DS with Super Mario 64 DS for one of you to win in this week's competition. Supply me with the answer to this week's film quote, your name and age and we'll pick a winner out of a hat and send it on through! As always we wont pass your details to any third parties :)
Last week's quote was from the superb film On Deadly Ground starring the genius that is Steven Seagal ("I'm just the cook!"). A personal favourite and it has Michael Caine in it as well.
This weeks quote for the Nintendo DS:
"Is this the man who disabled an unmarked unit????..with a banana???"
Take it easy people.
