It's the start of the 3GSM conference in Cannes. Due to girlfriend commitments (it is Valentines dammit), I have been unable to leave the UK. For all you others in the same boat here's the best of the best from the conference.

A desktop mobile won??t be much use to most people, but if you are elderly and have trouble using tiny gadgets with far from normal sized buttons, the Jablotron desktop mobile may have a purpose for you. Developed in the Czech Republic by electronic security device manufacturer Jablotron, the GDP-02 GSM Desktop Phone will use a standard GSM SIM card for making and receiving calls.

Almost more camcorder than phone, Pantech & Curitel is coming out with a very, very thick new 2.1 megapixel cameraphone called the PH-L4000V that can record "camcorder-quality" video clips to a mini MMC memory card and has a 2x optical zoom lens. »»

King of Fighters is coming to the N-Gage. It promises to be the usual King of Fighters affair, which means some of the best 2D fighting action out there. Also being an N-Gage you can play multiplayer via Bluetooth.

Kodiak Networks today has announced SIMpower, a wireless voice system with advanced performance and applications for almost all GSM handsets. The service will not be directly available to GSM subscribers as of yet, but hopefully soon wireless operators will offer the fancy new features to end-users.

Falanx Microsystems has a plan to bring console-quality graphics to mobile phones using their advanced line of System-on-Chip (SoC) semiconductors. The Mali 110, Mali55 and MaliGP core semiconductors integrate 2D, 3D and video within a single core, these are expected to offer the first 4X and 16X anti-aliasing support for high-end multimedia mobile phones.

navmo service is unique, however, in that it's a straight JAVA WML based app, so for many phones nothing but a page load is required ?? best guess is that this is done on the operators end by triangulating the location of the user from tower to tower, but navmo's being a bit mysterious about such details. »»

So, you're stuck in the woods, surrounded by mosquitos. It's pitch black, you've got a headache, and you're feeling totally wiped out. What do you do? The folks at Korea's TNP Telecom would apparently like you to reach for your cellphone. Not content to merely let you talk, take pictures and send text messages, TNP has added an ultrasonic mosquito repeller, a massager, a flashlight and a biorhythm reader to their Mobile Shot TDG-9920. Digital Bridges, a world leader in the creation and distribution of mobile entertainment solutions, today announced it has secured a licensing agreement with freestyle motocross legend Nate Adams. The rights, negotiated by The Familie, the athlete management division of Wasserman Media Group, will result in a new mobile game title, Nate Adams Freestyle Motocross, joining the dbigames portfolio of premium branded mobile games.

It's that time of year again when the games industry waits with eager anticipation for the next round of Bafta nominations. Bafta nomination's you say? Yes, that's right. In case you didn't know, the Bafta's have been extended to cover all entertainment for a few years now and it's not just Leo DiCaprio and Peter Jackson winning things anymore.
