CipSoft announced the development of an iPhone client for TibiaME. The release is planned for Q1 2010.
TibiaME is the first MMORPG for mobile phones worldwide. It has been online since 2003 and has currently about 50,000 active players. At the moment, TibiaME can be played with a Symbian and a Java client. In the near future, an iPhone client will be added to the portfolio. In addition, a completely overhauled high-resolution client will be available as well.
“We started our first technical test run about a year ago,” says Benjamin Zuckerer, the responsible product manager for TibiaME. “After we had mastered the challenge of developing an intuitive and easy control, we started to polish our graphics and decided to develop a completely new high-resolution client,” Zuckerer continues. “As soon as the AppStore supported a subscription based business model, we were ready to go,” explains Zuckerer.
In 2008, TibiaME more than doubled its subscriber base, followed by another very successful first six months in 2009. TibiaME is especially popular in Russia and Indonesia. “We are very excited about TibiaME’s new clients and the new distribution platforms,” admits Andreas Weikl, marketing manager at CipSoft. “We had to be very patient until mobile data tariffs became affordable for a wider audience. The iPhone changed the situation a lot, with it the conditions were finally right for TibiaME. TibiaME and the iPhone are simply meant for each other.”
CipSoft plans the release of both the high-resolution and the iPhone client for the first quarter of 2010.
