Chromodyne out on App Store

Story added: 16 Oct 2009 21:36

Don't blame the world's problems on this game

As you may or may not be aware, Chromodyne (http://celsiusgs.com/chromodyne), Celsius Game Studio's first app for the iPhone and iPod Touch will be available beginning Friday, October 15th, 2009. The full price of Chromodyne will be $1.99, however it will available for a limited time at $0.99 as an introductory 50% off sale!

Worryingly, there have been some serious allegations (http://celsiusgs.com/chromodyne/report.php) that Chromodyne has been linked with "genetic mutations", the "melting of the polar ice caps" and contributing to "sexual side effects". Despite the obviously unprofessional look of that report, we would just like to take a moment and refute them point by point:

- Genetic mutations: While we will admit that Chromodyne does emit some radiation in the visible spectrum and, due to the intense processing power required to generate 3D graphics, some infrared radiation as well, I must insist that it is all non-ionizing radiation. If Chromodyne does cause genetic mutations, Celsius promises to strive to ensure that it causes only useful mutations, such as making you stronger, giving you laser vision, and most certainly not causing you to grow a third arm or have all your hair fall out.

- Melting of the polar ice caps: As mentioned before, Chromodyne does cause some small amount of heating, but certainly not enough to melt an entire ice cap. If anything, the intent in Chromodyne is to save the Earth from destruction, so if you think about it, not buying Chromodyne means you'll be destroying any and all ice caps anyway; why won't anyone think of the equatorial ice caps?

- Sexual side effects: If "sexual side effects" means "makes you more attractive to the opposite sex" then yes, Celsius most certainly does not deny these allegations, and will be conducting extensive testing in the near future.

With all that out of the way, we'd like to talk a little bit more about Chromodyne:

Chromodyne is a 3D match-3 style puzzle game for the iPhone and iPod Touch, available now on the App Store.

As an operator of the Quantum Chromodynamic Cyclotron (or Chromodyne) you are the last line of defense the Earth has against interstellar catastrophe! Should the planet become endangered by an asteroid, comet or some other Massive Extra-Solar Smasher (or MESS) it is your job to use the Chromodyne to combine exotic matter, shooting it into the MESS and causing it to shrink and eventually phase out of our universe, thus saving the Earth from certain doom! The job isn't easy (and quite possibly thankless) but saving the world seldom is.

On days when there is no scheduled disaster, many a Chromodyne operator enjoys honing his or her skills by finding a rogue black hole and seeing how long they can keep it's mass below a certain size.

Chromodyne's gameplay is a twist on the traditional match-three style of play, featuring 5 concentric rings composed of exotic matter in a range of colours and shapes. You have to rotate the rings and line up 3 or more pieces of exotic matter of the same color and shape in a line aimed at the MESS in the center of the ring in order to clean up the MESS and add to your score.

Chromodyne comes with two exciting play modes:

- Story Mode describes the epic struggle between a pair of sinister aliens and the lone Chromodyne operator (you), as you stand between the Earth and the MESSes that the aliens throw at it.

- Survival Mode pits the player against an ever-growing black hole; the Chromodyne operator must keep it from growing too large for as long as possible.

Celsius also intends to deliver regular updates to Chromodyne with fresh content such as new game modes including head to head multi-player and new story mode chapters.
