Another Gameloft detective game.

Gameloft hit upon a decent formula when they released SCU - Blood on Campus and this is basically exactly the same game but with a different plot.

It's based on CSI Miami which I admit I don't really watch too much (when will we have a Quincy mobile game!?!?), but all the characters are faithfully recreated here. A dead girl was found on the beach and Horatio (the guy from NYPD blue) or H to his friends has to solve the murder.

Just like the SCU game, you get different locations you have to explore. There is evidence to collect in each one and the game even tells you how much you have collected and how much you have to go. This is one aspect which I think makes these games a little bit too easy.

Another is the fact that while there is a well thought out plot, the game essentially takes you on a ride, so it is, in essence, like an episode of the TV show. Once you finish at one location, the game will basically tell you where to go next and you have to wander off there and do some more detectiving (is that a word?). These vary from the PD, where you interrogate suspects, to the morgue and lab where you analyse the bodies and the evidence.

I must admit, that at least in SCU, there were some mini games to play when you were trying to find out if footprints matched etc, this one doesn't even have that. It's fairly straightforward if you go to the lab and work your way through each piece of equipment. Same thing in the morgue, you can see how many pieces of evidence you need to collect so you can easily keep searching for them until you find them.

As with the crime scene, you have specific tools to use to collect each type of evidence, but in the medium difficulty level, you can just cycle through each one until you get the right one. The same thing applies to the interrogations, apart from a few instances where you have to make a choice on what style to use, you can just select an option and if that doesn't work, rinse and repeat.

In between the locations, when the game is loading, we are treated to what I assume are quotes from the series. If they aren't it's some pretty corny writing and if they are the same thing applies. As there aren't too many of these they get repeated far too often.

The graphics are not bad, characters are faithfully reproduced and there is a fair amount of detail, even though it's 2D. Nothing is outstanding though, even the sound, but what we have here is well packaged.

Plotwise, I'm no Ironside, but I figured it out pretty early on, although that's just me. Either way, it's still a reasonably fun ride to get to the end and some of the plot developments are a little out of the blue at times. I guess if you're a huge fan of CSI and want to get a quick fix, this game would be perfect for you. Only problem is, how many times would you feel like solving the same murder?
