Costas Stephanidess Review
One of the best ever driving java games continues its march onto the App Store
It was just over a year ago that my esteemed colleague reviewed Rally Master Pro on the trusty Sony Ericsson K800. Having played the iPhone version and reading Anannya's review I have to say that pretty much everything that could be said about the iPhone version has already been said in the java version; you really have to read the review.
Basically, the iPhone version has great graphics, excellent playability and depth in gameplay. One major change from the java version is in the controls. Fishlabs have given you about four different control systems so there should be no more complaining. There's a standard tilt option which is never a personal favourite. Much easier and more responsive are the touch based steering controls. You can either have a steering wheel or separate left/right buttons.
On the whole Rally Master Pro is a great game on the iPhone but there are a few issues that are preventing it from gaining another Ice Cold Award. The graphics are good but they do not break the mould in the same way as the original. Fishlabs have pushed so many envelopes on java that they could takeover from the Royal Mail. However, on iPhone, there are plenty of other developers who have also made the most of the device's capabilities. Also, the game's replays may be fast loading and impressive looking but there is no You Tube or Facebook Connect.
Rally Master Pro is still one of the most authentic rally experiences on the iPhone and that will probably remain the case for many months to come.
