Might not improve your short game but good fun nonetheless

Digital Chocolate bring their mini golf to the iPhone. As you might expect from a DChoc game, the graphics and attention to detail are exquisite.

This mini golf game is all about completing the challenges and winning stars to progress to the next challenge/course. Each challenge can earn up to 5 stars for great scores and the requirements are quite testing towards the end. DChoc have done their best to bring variety to the challenges; it's not all just hole in one challenges. There are challenges against the par record, a computer opponent and even a tricky time attack mode. The only thing currently missing is a multiplayer option; hopefully that will come in an update after they test the waters.

The controls are touch based and require a steady digit. Before taking a shot it's wise to drag your finger on the screen to rotate the camera view as appropriate. To take a shot, touch and drag back on the ball to set your power and angle left/right for the direction. Perfecting the power and angles will require some practice; your only clues are a small pointer a power percentage figure. Some skill is required to judge the correct power but the game can be quite forgiving at times (especially on the short distances).

Mini golf games are only as good as the courses and themes available. Here we have a host of differently themed courses from medieval to futuristic (this is what golf would be like in The Crystal Maze). There are a number of traps to master including jumps, fire pits and cambered ramps. Accuracy is required in power, accuracy and timing. In-game trophies are available for your efforts.

At present this is just a game for the soloist but overall this is a fun and challenging game that should take a few hours if you want to complete everything.
