Costas Stephanides’s Review

Review Date: 30/12/04

An excellent poker game, full of features which can be configured to your specific tastes.

For once the developers hype is justified. The game does have all the features listed and does them well (apart from the sound)

I am a card freak but I still expect a certain level of quality. Aces T.H.E. does not disappoint. After loading up the application, I went straight into my first game. I didn't bother with any of the options - I know how to play Poker.

After a while, a few things were starting to grate - the game speed was a little slow, the cards were a little small. I decided to examine the options so I could write this review. When I got there, I was amazed. After a few minutes of tinkering, I fine-tuned the game to fit with my needs. For example, the speed is faster and the cards are more legible. The 'large cards' option does not produce giant sized cards; the cards are the same dimensions but only have the digit and the suit shape of the card rather than 6 little hearts in the regular pattern.

The only problem I did find with the game, was with so many options I think certain handsets may get overloaded. Mine did crash sometimes when deep inside the settings menu. However I have never had a problem during gameplay.

The game will suit all levels of experience. The computer characters each have their own AI which can be altered to your needs. You can even give yourselves 10 times as much money as your opponents and use that to scare them off with your high raises. For the confident among you, challengers can automatically come in after you have eliminated one of your opponents.

Texas Hold Em poker is a skilful game and not purely about luck. The 'no limits' aspect does give the game a bit of an edge and you must alter your tactics accordingly.
